KPK, Balochistan Assemblies elected speakers

The Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) assemblies elected speakers and deputy speakers on Thursday.

In the KPK Assembly, Babar Salim Swati, the candidate from the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) had support of the PTI. He secured 89 votes, clinching the position of the new speaker. Ehsanullah Miankhel from the PPP received 17 votes. The outgoing Speaker, Mushtaq Ghani conducted the swearing-in ceremony for Swati. Furthermore, MPA Suraiya Bibi from Chitral emerged as the deputy speaker.

Over in Balochistan, Abdul Khaliq Achakzai from the PML-N was elected as the speaker of the Assembly. The PPP’s Ghazala Gola elected as the deputy speaker unopposed. No other candidates submitted nomination papers.

During the preceding day, in the absence of the outgoing speaker, Mir Muhammad Khan Jamali, Zamrak Khan Piralizai, a senior member of the assembly, administered the oath to the newly elected Balochistan lawmakers. The inaugural session of the Balochistan Assembly coincided with the oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected members of the KPK Assembly. It was presided over by Speaker Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani.

These developments mark a significant step in the establishment of legislative leadership in the two provinces. The election outcomes reflect the political dynamics and alliances in each region.
