The 9 May Incident prompted the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cabinet to approve the establishment of a judicial commission on Thursday. This decision was made in the ninth meeting of the provincial cabinet, led by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

The cabinet also decided to formally convey the Provincial Assembly’s 11th resolution to the federal government. This resolution calls for the release of former Prime Minister Imran Khan and other political prisoners. Additionally, the cabinet expressed solidarity with the Iranian people after a tragic helicopter crash resulted in the death of the Iranian president and other dignitaries.

To bolster law enforcement, the cabinet approved the creation of 565 new posts for the KP Police in the southern districts. “This decision aligns with the policy to strengthen the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police and improve law and order,” stated an official communique.

The cabinet also approved amendments to Section 32 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Act 2017. These changes will facilitate the employment of 213 wards of Shuhada in the KP Police by increasing their quota.

Further amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zakat and Ushr Act 2011 were approved. These changes aim to establish the Philanthropic Contribution Fund. As a first donation, provincial cabinet members will contribute one month’s salary. Additionally, amendments will revamp the Zakat and Ushr Council, District Zakat Committees, Local Zakat Committees, and the formation of scrutiny committees at provincial and district levels. “These amendments will enable the department to establish a Zakat Management Information System for effective management of Zakat and Ushr distribution,” the communique added.

The provincial cabinet approved Rs319.627 million in additional funds for Cadet College Razmak in North Waziristan, Cadet College Spinkai, and Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan. This funding aims to address their financial needs.

Following the successful transition from the old traffic system to the enhanced traffic warden system in Peshawar, Swat, and Abbottabad, the cabinet approved extending this system to Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Kohat, and Mardan districts.

A “Cloud First Policy” was also approved. This policy will introduce cloud computing across government departments. It will facilitate centralized data management and ensure secure archival practices, enhancing efficiency and governance.

A cabinet committee was formed to ensure effective utilization and disposal of spare government land in Mardan district. This land was previously purchased for various government schemes but was not utilized effectively. The committee will submit its recommendations within 15 days.

The cabinet approved a 100% increase in room rents to balance the expenditure and income of KP Houses in Islamabad and Abbottabad, as well as the Shahi Mehman Khana in Peshawar.

To increase revenue, the cabinet approved outsourcing the collection of tobacco cess. It also approved conducting MDCAT 2024 by Khyber Medical University.

The cabinet decided to withdraw from an agreement with the Infrastructure Development Authority Punjab (IDAP). This agreement was for revamping DHQ Hospitals in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but was terminated due to poor progress.
