Afghanistan has transformed itself into a hotbed of proxies by a globally unrecognized government run by a non-state actor, TTA. Imbued with a violent ideology, it provides base and logistics to a hotchpotch of terrorist organizations with a focus on neighboring countries like TTP for Pakistan, ETIM for China, IMU for Uzbekistan, etc., while harboring the ISKP as a wildcard to sow instability.
By using these proxies, TTA gains negative leverage over neighboring countries and also remains useful to certain hostile intelligence agencies, whose interests are perpetual chaos in the region.
Once we focus more on ISKP, whom TTA now desperately but ridiculously wants to show as some sort of proxy of ISI, a few facts need to be seen.
Firstly, once TTA took over Afghanistan, they immediately released all its leadership and fighters in jail.
Secondly, TTP, JuA and ISKP have all been based in Kunar and Nangarhar in harmony under the patronage of the present Afghan government.
Thirdly, their is a cross-cross of leadership as well as cadre between both TTP and ISKP, with numerous examples. As if routine career changes are made from one organization to another in the corporate world, albeit in this case it’s the terror enterprise.
Interestingly, there is a certain division of labor assigned by their handlers between TTP and ISKP. ISKP is primarily used to target religious leaders and targets of sectarian violence like bomb blasts in mosques and Imam Bargahs, while TTP is primarily engaged in attacks against security forces.
ISKP, however, serves another important purpose. Internal attacks within Afghanistan so as to continue justifying the IAG and GDI heavy hand in dealing with any internal dissent and run Afghanistan as a security state.
These plethora of NSAs under the umbrella of Afghanistan thrive for their funding on a host of illegal activities like smuggling, extortion, narcotics, etc.
They also recruit from a common population base of economically vulnerable and religiously conservative segments of the Afghan and tribal populations.
All of them therefore thrive on open borders between Afghanistan and Pakistan and large illegal and undocumented Afghan refugees within Pakistan. Their leaders business of terror and illegal activities is hampered by a regulated border and control of commodities.
Hence, we can see the freakishness of the Afghan government’s morally, economically and legally justified decision to send back illegal
The fact of the matter is that Pakistan and the world understand well that these multiple terror enterprises within Afghanistan are a threat to all and are wise enough to see the dubious game being played by TTA.
Crafting false narratives and blaming Pakistan with frivolous propaganda like patronage of the ISKP or relating the return of illegal Afghans to the Amu River Canal dispute will no longer work.
