Khawaja Asif Condemns KP CM Over Direct Talks with Afghanistan

In a heated session of the National Assembly, Khawaja Asif, the Defense Minister, strongly criticized Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur for his statement advocating direct talks with Afghanistan. Asif condemned this position, describing it as an attack on the federation. He stressed that individual provinces should not engage directly with foreign countries, as it undermines the federal government’s authority over foreign policy matters. Concerns Raised Over Provincial Foreign Engagements

Khawaja Asif’s remarks came in response to Gandapur’s recent statement suggesting that KP should initiate direct talks with Afghanistan to resolve regional issues. Asif argued that such actions could weaken the country’s unified foreign policy stance and create diplomatic confusion. He called for maintaining a clear separation of powers between federal and provincial responsibilities to preserve the federation’s integrity.

Calls for Judicial Reforms by Fazlur Rehman

Meanwhile, JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman took the floor to call for urgent judicial reforms, labeling the current system as outdated and inefficient. He emphasized the need for reforms that reflect contemporary realities and ensure fair and timely justice. This stance aligns with growing calls for judicial changes across various political parties and civil society groups.

Government’s Response to Judicial Reform Calls

Responding to these concerns, the Law Minister acknowledged the flaws in the existing legal framework and revealed plans for comprehensive legal reforms. The government aims to introduce measures that will streamline court processes, reduce case backlogs, and ensure speedy justice for all citizens. Implications of Provincial Autonomy and Judicial Reforms

The exchange in the National Assembly highlights two pressing issues: the need to balance provincial autonomy with national interests and the urgent demand for judicial reforms. Both topics are likely to remain focal points in Pakistan’s political landscape in the coming months. Stay updated on these developments by visiting our Pakistan News section.
