RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, currently in jail, was indicted on Thursday in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case related to the violent protests of May 9, 2023.

The indictment took place during a hearing conducted at a makeshift court set up inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Judge Amjad Ali Shah presided over the proceedings.

A total of 143 individuals, including Imran Khan, have been named as accused in the case. Additionally, 23 individuals, including Zulfiqar Bukhari and Shahbaz Gill, have been declared fugitives. The court has also imposed a travel ban on all accused involved in the case.

The charges stem from the nationwide unrest that erupted following Khan’s arrest last year, with protestors allegedly targeting sensitive military installations, including the GHQ. The trial continues as authorities pursue accountability for the violence.
