Dar Hails Polish FM’s Visit as ‘Significant’ – Both Sides Agree to Deepen Cooperation
ISLAMABAD, October 23, 2025 — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar termed the visit of his Polish counterpart, Radosław Sikorski, as a “significant milestone” in strengthening Pakistan–Poland relations. The two leaders agreed to broaden cooperation in trade, energy, defence, and education, while also signing multiple MoUs aimed at institutional collaboration.
Talks Focus on Expanding Bilateral Ties
During delegation-level discussions held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, both sides reviewed the existing trajectory of Pakistan–Poland relations. Dar highlighted that bilateral trade had already surpassed one billion dollars, but stressed that “immense untapped potential” remained in areas like infrastructure, science, and technology.
“We agreed to expand cooperation in trade, energy, infrastructure, defence, counter-extremism, science and technology, and education,” Dar said at a joint press conference.
Two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed — one between the two foreign ministries to hold regular consultations, and another linking the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad, with the Polish Institute of International Affairs.
Shared History and Strategic Partnership
Dar noted that Poland and Pakistan share a unique historical bond dating back to World War II, when thousands of Polish refugees found refuge in Karachi and Quetta. He also recalled the vital role Polish engineers and pilots played in establishing the Pakistan Air Force.
“Poland’s struggle for independence is exemplary,” Dar remarked. “Pakistan values its partnership with Poland — both bilaterally and as part of the European Union.”
The Pakistani foreign minister congratulated Poland on becoming a trillion-dollar economy and commended its “smooth presidential election and leadership within the EU.”
Regional and Global Concerns
Both leaders also discussed key regional and global developments. Dar briefed Sikorski on Pakistan’s concerns about unprovoked Indian aggression and reiterated Islamabad’s principled stance on Jammu and Kashmir in line with UN resolutions.
He also referred to the threats from militant groups operating from Afghan soil, calling for greater regional cooperation to ensure peace and stability.
Dar emphasized the need to uphold the UN Charter’s principles and strengthen multilateralism to address global challenges effectively.
Polish Perspective: Trade, Technology, and Stability
In his remarks, Radosław Sikorski thanked Pakistan for its hospitality and recognition of the countries’ historical links. He announced Poland’s intention to expand collaboration in public finance, fintech, mining, water management, and energy — building on the success of the Polish Oil and Gas Company’s operations in Pakistan.
“We see huge potential in energy and mining partnerships,” Sikorski said. “Our universities also welcome talented Pakistani students contributing to people-to-people diplomacy.”
Sikorski underlined Poland’s commitment to legal migration and educational exchange while maintaining “zero tolerance for illegal entry into EU territory.” He also condemned Russia’s violation of Polish airspace, describing it as an “unprecedented military provocation.”
On Ukraine and Gaza
Reaffirming Poland’s position, Sikorski said his country supports a just and lasting peace in Ukraine based on international law and the UN Charter. Regarding the Gaza conflict, he reiterated Poland’s recognition of Palestine and called for a two-state solution ensuring dignity and peace for both peoples.
“Poland supports all efforts leading to a stable and prosperous South Asia,” Sikorski concluded, lauding Pakistan’s constructive regional role.
A Renewed Partnership
The visit marked Sikorski’s second trip to Pakistan — his last being in 2011. Both sides expressed optimism about transforming the bilateral relationship into a comprehensive and mutually beneficial partnership.
“Today, we reaffirm our resolve to strengthen our historic friendship through modern cooperation,” Dar said, wrapping up the conference on an optimistic note.
