SIC Chief Hamid Raza Sent to Jail to Serve 10-Year Sentence in May 9 Case
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Faisalabad has ordered Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Chairman Sahibzada Mohammad Hamid Raza to begin his 10-year prison sentence in the May 9 case. The court directed authorities to transfer him to Central Jail Faisalabad.
Hamid Raza was convicted earlier this year alongside several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in a case related to the May 9 incidents in Faisalabad. According to his brother, Sahibzada Hassan Raza, Hamid was detained by Islamabad police while travelling from Peshawar to Faisalabad to surrender before the court.
During the hearing, PTI leaders and SIC workers were present as the court instructed jail authorities to enforce the sentence. A post on Hamid Raza’s official X account confirmed that the Islamabad police had intercepted him during his travel.
In September, Hamid Raza resigned as Secretary Information of the Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP), saying he acted in line with party decisions. He reiterated support for PTI founder Imran Khan, pledging to continue his political journey with him.
The ATC order marks another key development in the May 9 cases, reflecting the government’s ongoing legal follow-up on those convicted in connection with the incidents.
