ISLAMABAD: On his first day as Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Yahya Afridi swiftly handled 30 cases in the Supreme Court, completing hearings within an hour and 15 minutes, from 9:30 am to 10:45 am.
Of the 30 cases, Chief Justice Afridi adjourned six until later in the morning, at 11:30 am, citing various reasons, and completed hearings for the remaining 24 cases. The cases were heard alongside Justice Shahid Bilal in Bench No. 1.
Following the morning hearings, Chief Justice Afridi attended his first full court session at 1 pm, focusing on judges’ concerns and broader judicial matters. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, however, was absent from the session due to being on Umrah.
The Supreme Court’s cause list shows that around 968 cases are scheduled for hearing by November 1, with eight regular benches handling the proceedings. For this week, approximately 140 cases have been fixed in the Chief Justice’s court alone.
