Federal Cabinet Approves Ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan

    Cabinet Moves to Ban TLP

The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has approved a ban on Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) following a detailed briefing from the Ministry of Interior. The move follows a formal recommendation from the Punjab government, which cited TLP’s alleged involvement in violent demonstrations, arson, and att@cks on law enforcement personnel.

Sources confirmed that the cabinet’s decision is based on extensive evidence presented by provincial and federal agencies, outlining TLP’s repeated violation of public order and national secu-rity regulations.

    Legal Process Underway

According to officials, the Interior Ministry has been directed to complete all necessary legal procedures to formalize the ban. A reference will be sent to the Supreme Court within 15 days to validate the decision. TLP will retain the right to defend itself before the apex court.

The ministry’s summary highlighted several charges, including incitement of unrest, promotion of sectarianism, and damage to both public and private property. The government stated that such actions have repeatedly challenged the writ of the state and endangered social harmony.

    A History of Violent Protests

Punjab Police data revealed that between 2016 and 2025, 11 police officers were martyred and 1,648 injured during TLP-led demonstrations. Of these, 69 officers were permanently disabled and 202 sustained severe injuries. The protests also claimed 16 civilian lives and caused injuries to 54 others.

In total, 97 police vehicles were destroyed, two were set on fire, and several police buildings were damaged. Over 300 cases were registered under anti-terrorism laws, while more than 17,800 individuals were booked for violent conduct.

The decision to ban TLP reflects the government’s stance on restoring public safety and rule of law amid recurring unrest.
