Meta AI Launches Urdu Version for Pakistani Users
American tech giant Meta has officially launched Meta AI in Urdu for users in Pakistan, a significant step toward making artificial intelligence more accessible and inclusive. The announcement was made at the “Future in Focus: AI and Innovation” event, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT).
A Step Toward Digital Inclusion
Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima highlighted that integrating Urdu into AI tools is a vital component of the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation Vision. She said this initiative will ensure broader access to emerging technologies, enabling individuals and institutions across Pakistan to participate in the digital economy.
Meta’s Director of Public Policy for South and Central Asia, Sarim Aziz, stated that the Urdu version will support public sector and educational institutions in adopting AI solutions effectively. He emphasized that language inclusivity is key to bridging the digital divide and fostering innovation at the grassroots level.
Expanding AI Access Across Sectors
Alongside the Urdu launch, Meta introduced a localized guide on AI for public sector innovation and rolled out the AI Literacy Program, which will train 350 non-computer science university teachers nationwide. These efforts aim to build foundational AI understanding across disciplines and encourage responsible AI use.
The company also unveiled the Government Digital Transformation Xperience (GDTX) 2025, a new platform designed to strengthen public-private collaboration and accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation goals. With this launch, Meta reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Pakistan’s digital ecosystem through inclusive, innovative, and locally relevant AI solutions.
