One-China Policy: Pakistan Reaffirms Firm Support for China on Taiwan Issue

Pakistan has once again reaffirmed its unwavering support for China on the Taiwan issue. The Foreign Office made the position clear by reiterating Islamabad’s continued adherence to the One-China policy. This statement comes at a time of rising tensions in the Taiwan Strait following recent military activities by China.

The development highlights Pakistan’s consistent diplomatic alignment with Beijing on issues related to China’s core national interests.

Pakistan’s Official Position on the One-China Policy

Responding to media queries, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi stated that Pakistan and China share iron-clad relations. He described the bilateral partnership as an all-weather strategic cooperative relationship.

Moreover, he emphasized that Pakistan has always supported China on matters linked to its sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to the spokesperson, this position includes the Taiwan issue without exception.

Pakistan continues to recognize Taiwan as an inalienable part of the People’s Republic of China. Therefore, Islamabad remains firmly committed to the One-China principle.

Context: Rising Tensions in the Taiwan Strait

The statement was issued amid heightened tensions between China and Taiwan. These tensions escalated following China’s recent military exercises in the region.

However, Pakistan’s response remained consistent with its long-standing foreign policy approach. The country has historically avoided ambiguity on matters related to China’s core interests. As a result, Islamabad’s stance did not signal any shift or recalibration.

    Strategic Importance of Pakistan-China Relations

Pakistan and China enjoy decades-long strategic cooperation. Their relationship spans defense, trade, infrastructure, and regional connectivity.

Furthermore, Pakistan has repeatedly supported China at international forums. This includes issues such as Taiwan, Xinjiang, Tibet, and Hong Kong. In return, China has also supported Pakistan on matters of sovereignty and regional security.

Thus, Pakistan’s reaffirmation of the One-China policy reflects continuity rather than a new policy direction.

    Diplomatic Consistency and Regional Significance

Pakistan’s clear position sends a message of diplomatic consistency. It reinforces Islamabad’s commitment to stable regional partnerships and principled foreign policy choices.

Additionally, the statement underlines Pakistan’s preference for respecting internationally recognized frameworks. The One-China policy remains a cornerstone of Pakistan-China diplomatic engagement.

In conclusion, Pakistan’s reaffirmation of support for China on the Taiwan issue underscores the depth of bilateral ties between the two countries. By reiterating its adherence to the One-China policy, Islamabad has once again aligned itself firmly with Beijing’s core national interests.

As regional dynamics continue to evolve, Pakistan’s position remains clear, consistent, and strategically anchored.
