Pakistan and India’s Champions Trophy 2025 Debate: PCB Proposes a “Partnership Formula”
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has presented a groundbreaking “Partnership or Fusion Formula” to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to resolve the ongoing impasse over the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This innovative proposal aims to ensure fairness and facilitate cricket diplomacy between Pakistan and India, two rival cricketing nations.
A Neutral Ground for Equality
As per sources, the PCB’s formula suggests that India and Pakistan play all their matches at neutral venues for the next three years. This comes in response to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s refusal to send its team to Pakistan for the tournament. In turn, the PCB rejected BCCI’s proposal for a hybrid model that would have shifted India’s matches to Dubai.
PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi emphasized the importance of equality and respect in these negotiations. “It is not possible that we go to India, but they don’t come to Pakistan,” Naqvi stated, asserting that parity must be the foundation of any agreement.

ICC’s Role in Resolving the Stalemate
The ICC has yet to decide on the proposal, with consultations underway with the BCCI. The urgency to find a resolution has increased, as the Champions Trophy is set to take place in February-March 2025. Both boards are striving to ensure a “win-win situation” that safeguards the spirit of the game while respecting national integrity.
A Call for Long-term Solutions
The PCB also highlighted the need for a sustainable, long-term solution covering future ICC events. Naqvi hinted at the possibility of Pakistan boycotting tournaments in India if mutual respect is not upheld. “The dignity of Pakistan is paramount, and we cannot compromise on it,” he affirmed.
With cricket diplomacy hanging in the balance, all eyes are on the ICC as the cricketing world awaits a decision that could redefine the dynamics of Pakistan-India cricket relations.
