US Thanks Pakistan for Considering Role in Gaza Stabilisation Force
Washington Welcomes Pakistan’s Openness on Gaza Stabilisation
The United States has expressed gratitude to Pakistan for its openness to considering participation in a proposed International Stabilisation Force (ISF) for Gaza. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington appreciated Pakistan’s willingness to engage in discussions, describing Islamabad as a key potential partner in future peace and stabilisation efforts.
Speaking at a press conference in Washington, Rubio clarified that while Pakistan has not yet made a formal commitment, its readiness to consider joining the initiative was viewed positively by US officials. He added that several questions still needed to be addressed before any country could be asked to make a firm commitment.
Structure and Mandate of Proposed Force Under Discussion
According to Rubio, ongoing discussions focus on outlining the framework of the stabilisation force, including funding mechanisms, rules of engagement, and its role in peacebuilding and demilitarisation. He noted that the next phase would involve announcing a broader political framework, including a Palestinian technocratic setup, to allow participating states to finalise their roles.
The US secretary said a number of countries acceptable to all sides were willing to step forward, adding that Pakistan’s potential involvement would be significant if it agreed to participate under agreed terms.
Pakistan Clarifies No Decision Taken Yet
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office has clarified that no decision has yet been taken regarding participation in the ISF. Officials stated that discussions on the matter are ongoing in certain capitals, but Islamabad has neither committed to joining the force nor received any formal or specific request so far.
The clarification followed media reports suggesting growing pressure on Pakistan to join the stabilisation mission. The Foreign Office reiterated that any decision would be made in line with national interests, international law, and Pakistan’s long-standing diplomatic principles.
Diplomatic Engagement Continues
Analysts say Pakistan’s cautious approach reflects the complexity of the Gaza situation and the importance of clearly defined objectives, responsibilities, and safeguards for any international deployment. Continued diplomatic engagement is expected as stakeholders work toward a viable stabilisation framework.
