The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, in a emergency press release, has condemned the tragic massacre of innocent and unarmed civilians in Kurram district on November 21, 2024. The members, showing deep empathy, expressed their heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, while highlighting the grave responsibility of the provincial government in ensuring the safety of its people.

The Bar Council did not hold back in its criticism of the government’s failure to protect its citizens. “The primary responsibility of the provincial government and local administration is to safeguard the lives and properties of the people,” they said, pointing out that the government, instead of focusing on these crucial duties, has been distracted by political games and sit-ins in Islamabad. This neglect has left the citizens vulnerable, with law and order issues escalating unchecked.

In a direct challenge to the government, the Bar Council warned that if the situation remains unresolved within 15 days, the lawyers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will hold a peace march from Peshawar to Parachinar to demand justice. Furthermore, the lawyers will boycott courts across the province on Saturday, November 23, 2024, signaling their protest against the government’s ineffectiveness.

The Bar Council also called for the immediate restoration of PIA flights to Parachinar and the launch of a helicopter service to provide essential supplies, including food and medicine, to the region. This demand highlights the urgent need for practical measures to support the affected populations and ensure that the government meets its basic obligations.

This statement not only exposes the KPK government’s failure to act but also serves as a stark reminder of the need for immediate attention to the region’s security and well-being. The Bar Council’s action plan promises further steps if the situation does not improve, showing that the legal community will not remain silent in the face of such inaction.
