FO Confirms Four Pakistanis Among Victims of Greece Boat Tragedy

The Foreign Office (FO) has confirmed the death of four Pakistani nationals in a tragic Greece boat tragedy near the Greek island of Crete. The incident occurred on Saturday, December 14, when a wooden boat carrying migrants capsized off the island of Gavdos in southern Greece, resulting in at least five deaths, as reported by foreign media.

In a statement, the FO spokesperson expressed deep sorrow and shared that Greek authorities have identified four Pakistani victims among the deceased. “Our mission in Athens is in touch with the Greek authorities to facilitate the survivors and repatriate the bodies,” the spokesperson added.

Embassy of Pakistan Steps Up Assistance for Survivors

The Embassy of Pakistan in Athens has been in constant communication with the Hellenic Coast Guard and the Coast Guard of Chania, who were directly overseeing the search and rescue operations. Embassy officials have reached Crete to meet with the rescued Pakistani migrants and extend any assistance required.

Families of the missing Pakistanis are urged to contact the Embassy of Pakistan in Athens to share details or seek support. The embassy has provided a helpline number for this purpose: +30-6943850188.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by migrants attempting dangerous sea routes in search of better opportunities. Pakistani authorities are working closely with Greek officials to ensure the repatriation of the deceased and provide necessary aid to survivors.
