Key Development Projects for Balochistan Approved by ECNEC
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved several key development projects aimed at strengthening education, infrastructure, and livelihoods in Balochistan. The decision reflects the federal government’s renewed commitment to accelerating progress in the province through focused investments and long-term planning.
The ECNEC meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar via video link, was attended by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, senior officials from the Planning Division, and Balochistan’s Senior Irrigation Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani, who represented the province as a committee member.
Focus on Education Reforms
According to officials, the committee placed special emphasis on the education sector, approving the ambitious “Access and Delivery of Quality Education” project for Balochistan. The five-year initiative seeks to improve the standard and accessibility of education across the province.
The project consists of four major components — early childhood education, primary education, public-private partnership, and emergency section. These components aim to enhance learning outcomes, strengthen public-private collaboration, and ensure inclusive educational opportunities for all children.
Officials briefed the committee that the initiative will help expand learning opportunities and boost literacy rates, enabling children in remote and underserved areas to access quality education.
Infrastructure and Livelihood Projects Approved
In addition to education reforms, ECNEC approved major road construction projects vital for improving connectivity and trade within Balochistan. These include the 103-kilometre Zhob–Mehktar–Margha Kabzai road and the 105-kilometre Duki–Chamalang road.
These projects are expected to enhance regional mobility, support local industries, and open new avenues for socio-economic development.
Moreover, the revised Balochistan Livelihood and Internship Project was also cleared, focusing on skill development and job creation for the province’s youth. The initiative seeks to empower local communities through training programs, entrepreneurship support, and sustainable employment opportunities.
Commitment to Quality and Timely Execution
The committee underscored the importance of timely completion and quality assurance in all projects. It directed relevant departments to maintain high implementation standards, ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in execution.
Officials reaffirmed that these projects represent a strategic investment in Balochistan’s future, aligning with Pakistan’s broader vision for balanced national growth and equitable resource distribution.
The approval of these initiatives by ECNEC marks a significant milestone in Balochistan’s development roadmap. With enhanced focus on education, infrastructure, and livelihoods, the province is set to experience improved connectivity, better learning outcomes, and stronger socio-economic resilience.
These projects not only promise progress for Balochistan but also contribute to Pakistan’s national agenda for inclusive and sustainable growth.
