In a significant development reflecting Pakistan’s growing diplomatic relevance, Donald Trump has reportedly indicated openness to considering advice from Asim Munir regarding the evolving situation around the Strait of Hormuz.

According to a Pakistani security source, the discussion took place during a direct phone call between the two leaders at a time of heightened diplomatic engagement aimed at stabilising the region and reviving dialogue with Iran. The exchange highlights Pakistan’s increasingly active role in shaping conversations around one of the world’s most sensitive geopolitical flashpoints.

The development comes as Iran signalled hesitation toward continued negotiations. Esmail Baghaei stated that conditions were not currently conducive for further dialogue, reflecting the complexities surrounding ongoing diplomatic efforts.

At the centre of these tensions lies the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz, a key global energy corridor that has recently witnessed heightened friction due to naval incidents and competing narratives from Washington and Tehran regarding its status.

During the conversation, Munir reportedly underscored the risks associated with continued disruptions in the waterway, warning that instability could undermine broader prospects for dialogue and long-term regional peace. His intervention aligns with Pakistan’s consistent emphasis on de-escalation and constructive engagement.

While there has been no immediate confirmation from the U.S. side, the interaction signals a recognition of Pakistan’s perspective at a crucial moment. Islamabad has already facilitated earlier contacts between Washington and Tehran, positioning itself as a credible intermediary, even as tangible outcomes remain a work in progress.
