The United States Department of State has advised American nationals in Iran to leave the country as parts of Iranian airspace have reopened.
US authorities have urged citizens to stay in close contact with commercial airlines for flight availability and to continuously monitor local media for updates. Travellers have also been informed that overland routes remain an option, with exits possible through Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Turkmenistan.
However, the advisory clearly discourages travel toward Afghanistan and Iraq due to security concerns.
Officials have also warned that the Iranian government may impose restrictions on departures, including preventing US citizens from leaving or requiring payment of an exit fee. Additionally, dual nationals holding Iranian citizenship are required to enter and exit the country using their Iranian passports.
The advisory reflects heightened caution as the situation in the region remains sensitive, prompting Washington to prioritise the safety of its citizens.
