ATC Issues Non-Bailable Arrest Warrant for Aleema Khan in November 26 Protest Case
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi on Monday issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, in connection with the November 26 protest case. The court directed the police to arrest her and produce her before the bench on October 22.
Court Orders Arrest After Absence
The warrant was issued by ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah after Aleema repeatedly failed to appear before the court. The case pertains to a protest organized by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) last year in Sadiqabad, demanding the release of Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023.
Ten other accused in the case appeared before the court during Monday’s hearing, while five prosecution witnesses recorded their statements. The court also issued a non-bailable warrant for Aleema’s guarantor, Umer Sharif, instructing the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner to verify property documents submitted for bail surety.
Background of the Case
Aleema and nine other PTI activists were indicted earlier under charges related to the November 26, 2024, protest, which turned violent after clashes between law enforcement and demonstrators. The three-day demonstration, organized to pressure the government for Imran Khan’s release, ended abruptly following intense confrontations that led to the deaths of three Rangers personnel and one policeman.
Authorities registered multiple cases against PTI workers following the incident, citing public unrest and property damage. The ATC is currently conducting witness examinations and reviewing evidence linked to the protest.
Next Hearing and Legal Proceedings
The court has scheduled the next hearing for October 22, directing law enforcement to ensure Aleema Khan’s appearance. Legal experts note that non-bailable warrants indicate serious non-compliance with court directives and can lead to immediate detention upon arrest.
The development comes amid ongoing proceedings in several cases tied to the PTI founder and his party leadership following the events of 2022–2024, which included multiple allegations ranging from corruption to unrest.
