The Iranian Human Rights Organization has reported that Iran executions have reached 300 in the first seven months of this year. Among those executed, 20 were Afghan citizens.
The organization stated that 172 of the individuals faced charges related to drugs.
In a press release, the organization noted: “In the first seven months of this year, at least 300 people have been executed in Iran. Among the executed were 42 Baluch citizens, 20 Kurdish citizens, 20 Afghan citizens, and 15 women. The charges for 172 of the executed were related to drugs.”
Idris Zazi, a political analyst, said: “This year, Iran has executed around twenty Afghans. The main issue here is that the Islamic Emirate should seriously request an investigation from the Iranian government regarding this matter.”
Although the Islamic Emirate has not yet commented on the Iran executions, some analysts believe stronger connections with other countries are necessary to support Afghan citizens. Moeen Gul Samkani, another political analyst, said: “Unfortunately, Afghans, wherever they are, can be accused of any crime a country and its citizens wish to pin on them, and they are often denied the right to a defense attorney. Therefore, if we have evidence regarding criminals with the Iranian government, they could serve their sentences within Afghanistan.”
Previously, the Deputy of International Affairs of the Iranian Judiciary stated that nearly 95% of this country’s foreign prisoners are Afghan citizens.
