In a recent press conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar emphasized Pakistan’s determination to address the longstanding and intricate issue of the Pak-Iran gas pipeline. Dar asserted that Pakistan’s decisions regarding the pak-iran gas pipeline would prioritize national interests and fulfill international obligations.
Despite external pressures, including from the United States, Pakistan remains steadfast in asserting its sovereignty and autonomy in determining the fate of the Pak-Iran gas pipeline. Dar affirmed that Pakistan would not allow any foreign nation to veto its sovereign decisions.
Dar provided insights into Pakistan’s active role at the 15th OIC Summit in Gambia, where the nation addressed various critical issues facing the Muslim Ummah. These included advocating for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, combating Islamophobia, addressing the situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K), and discussing economic concerns.
Highlighting Pakistan’s proactive stance, Dar mentioned the appointment of a special representative by the OIC to address Islamophobia, as per Pakistan’s recommendation. Additionally, Pakistan urged the OIC to push for a ceasefire in Gaza, halt the indiscriminate use of force, and provide humanitarian aid to Palestinians, while also calling upon the UN Security Council to implement its resolutions.
Regarding IIOJ&K, Pakistan informed OIC members about the dire conditions and urged India to reverse its actions from August 05, 2019, including human rights violations and the release of Kashmiri prisoners.
Dar stressed the need for a unified OIC approach to combat Islamophobia, particularly concerning offensive material on social media platforms. He emphasized the importance of concerted efforts by all member states to address this global issue effectively.
Responding to queries, Dar mentioned an upcoming visit by Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, signaling Pakistan’s desire to strengthen bilateral relations. He also addressed concerns about stability in the region, expressing Pakistan’s willingness to foster friendly relations with neighboring Afghanistan.
In light of recent terrorism incidents, Dar pointed out evidence indicating that attacks, including those against Chinese nationals, were orchestrated from Afghan soil. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to combatting terrorism and maintaining regional stability.
Addressing freedom of expression, Dar highlighted the constitutional guarantee provided by Article 19 but emphasized the need for responsible expression within legal boundaries, particularly concerning national interests and state institutions.
Finally, Dar refuted claims about his involvement in wheat imports and the alleged dysfunctioning of the Track and Trace System of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) during his previous tenure, dismissing them as baseless accusations stemming from political motives.
