Pakistan Army Foils Cross-Border Infiltration Attempts Amid Pak-Afghan Peace Talks
In a significant border operation, Pakistan’s secu-rity forces successfully thwarted multiple infiltration attempts from across the Afghan border, neutralizing 25 militants during two separate engagements in Kurram and North Waziristan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that five soldiers embraced martyrdom during the intense exchanges of fire.
Infiltration Foiled Amid Peace Talks
The infiltration attempts took place at a sensitive time when delegations from Islamabad and Kabul are engaged in peace talks in Türkiye, following a Doha-brokered ceasefire between the two nations.
According to ISPR, the movements of two large militant groups were detected near Ghaki (Kurram) and Spinwam (North Waziristan) on October 24–25. Troops responded with precision strikes, eliminating 15 militants, including four suicide b0mbers, in Spinwam, and 10 more in Kurram.
A substantial cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the neutralized infiltrators.
Martyrs Honoured for Ultimate Sacrifice
The military identified the fallen soldiers as Havildar Manzoor Hussain, Sepoy Nauman Ilyas Kiyani, Sepoy Muhammad Adil, Sepoy Shah Jehan, and Sepoy Ali Asghar.
Their sacrifices, the ISPR noted, strengthen the nation’s determination to defend its borders. The statement emphasized that these infiltration attempts “cast doubts on the intentions of the Interim Afghan Government” regarding the containment of cross-border militancy.
Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Peace
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the courage of the troops, paying tribute to the fallen soldiers and reaffirming the government’s resolve to eliminate militancy under “Azm-e-Istehkam” — a national campaign approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan.
President Zardari reiterated that “the evil intentions of the Khawarij and their foreign patrons will never succeed,” while Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan remains determined to root out all forms of militancy.
Tensions Persist Despite Ceasefire
The infiltration attempts came amid an uneasy calm on the border following deadly clashes earlier this month — the most intense since the Taliban’s 2021 takeover of Kabul.
Despite a ceasefire brokered by Qatar and Türkiye, Pakistan has extended the closure of border crossings with Afghanistan for an indefinite period, citing secu-rity concerns.
Officials maintain that Islamabad expects Kabul to prevent the use of its soil by militant elements targeting Pakistan.
A Continuing Resolve
The Pakistan Army reaffirmed its commitment to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity. The ISPR vowed that the “relentless counter-terr0rism campaign” under Azm-e-Istehkam will continue at full pace until the menace of foreign-sponsored militancy is completely eradicated.
The operation serves as a stark reminder of Pakistan’s ongoing struggle to balance secu-rity and diplomacy, as both sides continue dialogue in pursuit of lasting regional stability.
