PESHAWAR: Amidst the backdrop of escalating internal tensions within militant factions, another significant blow has been dealt to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) with the killing of a key commander Sarbakaf Mohmand. Sarbakaf Mohmand was formerly associated with the banned Jamaat ul Ahrar.
This development unfolds following the recent merger of Jamaat ul Ahrar with the TTP, showing deep differences within the banned outlet.
Internal divisions and conflicts among the militants have escalated, leading to increased tensions within their ranks. The recent demise of Sarbakaf, a notorious figure with a history of involvement in anti-state activities, adds a grim chapter to this unfolding saga.
Sarbakaf was mastermind of various attack on law enforcement agencies including deadly attack on Peshawar Police Line, which claimed the lives of approximately 90 policemen. He was actively supported attacks on army installations, aligning himself with the TTP’s hostile stance against state institutions.
According to reports, the prominent figure within militant ranks met a tragic end at the hands of members belonging to the Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud group, who allegedly administered poison to Sarbakaf. It has also been reported that commander Abdul Wali was also shot dead by the same Noor Wali Mehsud group.
The loss of these significant figures intensifies the power struggle within militant circles, as Sarbakaf had previously emerged as a potential alternative to the TTP hitman, Noor Wali Mehsud.
