JAMRUD: On Tuesday, a tragic suicide blast occurred in the Ali Masjid area of Khyber District, resulting in the martyrdom of at least one police official. The officer identified as Additional SHO Adnan Afridi lost his life in the explosion. The incident unfolded when a suicide bomber, upon spotting law enforcement officials, took refuge inside a mosque and detonated himself during the ensuing search operation.
The eyewitnesses reported that the mosque was empty at the time of the incident, possibly preventing further casualties. Nevertheless, security forces and the police promptly sealed off the area to secure it and launch an investigation.
KP Inspector General of Police (IGP) Akhtar Hayat Khan revealed that the suspect blew himself up while the search operation was being conducted inside the mosque. Authorities were quick to respond to the tragedy and arrested a suspicious person from the vicinity of the blast site.
According to Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Peshawar Ashfaq Anwar, the additional SHO had received information about suspicious individuals in the area, prompting him to call for a search operation. However, the suicide bomber evaded the police and fled towards the mosque, leading to a chase by Additional SHO Afridi. Tragically, the bomber detonated himself inside the mosque, resulting in the martyrdom of the brave officer.
