In a significant development, Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, revealed plans on Tuesday to establish a parliamentary committee aimed at addressing the persistent violence and insurgency plaguing the region. With a sense of urgency, Bugti outlined the committee’s objectives, emphasizing the need for a concerted effort to find lasting solutions to these complex challenges.
According to Bugti, the committee’s primary task will be to formulate a consensus roadmap for the government to effectively combat insurgency and terrorism in Balochistan. Additionally, it will seek to engage with dissident groups, offering them an opportunity to renounce violence and participate constructively in the region’s development.
Bugti made it clear that the committee’s recommendations will be forwarded to the Federal Government for prompt action, underscoring the government’s commitment to eradicating the menace from Balochistan permanently. Standing alongside provincial ministers, Bugti reiterated the government’s stance against violence perpetrated for personal gain, while also expressing a willingness to engage in dialogue within the boundaries of the Constitution.
Highlighting the importance of tribal input, Bugti announced plans for the committee to hold talks with tribal leaders to gather insights on restoring law and order. However, he warned that should these efforts falter, the government would take decisive action to address the insurgency.
Bugti also tasked the Home Minister with formulating a comprehensive policy, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, to enhance security on roads and highways, ensuring the safety of all travelers.
In a bid to usher in a new era of governance, Bugti unveiled a 60-point reform agenda aimed at addressing various sectors, including healthcare, education, and agriculture. Cabinet members are set to commence work on these reforms immediately.
While Bugti celebrated the progress made by the commission investigating missing persons cases, he denounced the exploitation of this issue by foreign-funded elements to undermine state institutions.
Amidst these announcements, Bugti condemned a recent terrorist attack on an election camp in Kohlu district, highlighting the ongoing challenges facing Balochistan.
Bugti’s initiative represents a significant step towards addressing the longstanding issues of violence and insurgency in Balochistan. However, the success of these efforts remains uncertain, leaving the region in a state of anticipation and cautious optimism.
