ISLAMABAD: In a recent interview with the BBC, Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized that the passage of the 26th constitutional amendment would not have been feasible under any chief justice other than Qazi Faez Isa. He noted that attempts were made to undermine the credibility of Chief Justice Isa during this crucial process.

Bilawal stated that the parliament successfully approved the 26th constitutional amendment and highlighted that a new Chief Justice was appointed as part of this amendment. He acknowledged the significance of passing the amendment before the October 25 deadline, deeming it a substantial accomplishment.

He also asserted that the approval of the amendment would have proceeded even without the backing of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, claiming that the PPP had sufficient numbers to ensure its passage in parliament.

Reflecting on the broader political landscape, Bilawal discussed the aftermath of the May 9 attacks on military installations, indicating that the government was intent on identifying those responsible. He criticized the judiciary for becoming an obstacle in the government’s efforts through its interpretation of the constitution.
