KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur Surrenders Before Court in 2016 Liquor and Arms Case

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur appeared before the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad on Monday. His court appearance was linked to a 2016 case involving the alleged recovery of liquor and illegal arms.

Judicial Magistrate Mubashir Hassan Chishti oversaw the hearing. After Gandapur’s surrender, the court canceled the arrest warrants issued earlier. It also withdrew the show-cause notice sent to his surety.

    Details of the 2016 Incident

On October 30, 2016, Islamabad police stopped Gandapur’s vehicle at a checkpoint on Rukhsana Bangash Road near Bani Gala. The police claimed they found a bottle of liquor and several weapons in the car.

The recovered items included four Kalashnikov rifles, a tear-gas gun, bulletproof vests, and ammunition. These were displayed at the Bara Kahu police station. The case has remained unresolved for years, but recent political developments revived interest in it.

    Gandapur Denies All Allegations

Gandapur strongly denied the charges. He said the bottle contained honey, not liquor. He also stated that all firearms were legally licensed. His legal team had previously requested an exemption from attending court, but the judge rejected it due to repeated absences.

After missing several hearings, the court finally ordered law enforcement to arrest and present him. His appearance now marks a change in the case’s momentum.

    Political Context and Legal Implications

This legal step comes at a time when political tensions are rising. Gandapur, a senior PTI leader, has been vocal against the opposition. He recently challenged rivals with bold statements and no-confidence dares.

His court appearance may ease immediate legal pressure. However, the case remains open, and further hearings could have long-term consequences depending on the evidence.

    What Happens Next

The court’s decision to cancel the arrest warrants ends one phase of the case. But investigations and legal arguments are likely to continue. Observers expect that future proceedings will decide whether the case moves forward or is dismissed.

Stay tuned for more updates as the case unfolds.
