Shutter Down, Wheel Jam Strike Cripples Azad Kashmir

    Region at a Standstill

Life across Azad Jammu and Kashmir came to a grinding halt on Monday as the Public Action Committee staged a shutter down and wheel jam strike. The strike, part of a growing protest movement, left shops, markets, hotels, and transport services closed in Muzaffarabad and beyond. Schools remained technically open, but most classrooms were empty as students stayed away.

    38-Point Charter of Demands

The protest revolves around a sweeping 38-point charter of demands, which includes ending 12 reserved seats for refugees and curbing privileges extended to elites. The Committee announced plans to hold a rally later in the day, escalating its campaign for reforms. Public frustration over governance, inequality, and economic challenges is at the heart of the movement.

    Communication Blackout

The disruption was compounded by a communication blackout. For the second day, mobile and internet services were suspended across Azad Kashmir. In an unprecedented move, landline services were also cut, leaving residents disconnected from the outside world. The blackout has further fueled concerns over transparency and the ability of citizens to voice their grievances.
