Pak-Afghan Border Likely to Reopen Within 48 Hours as Tensions Ease

The Pakistan-Afghanistan border is expected to reopen within the next 24 to 48 hours, marking a breakthrough in efforts to restore peace and normalcy along one of the region’s most critical crossings. Diplomatic sources confirmed that officials from both countries have reached an agreement to resume trade and travel through Torkham, pending final security clearances.

    Recent Hostilities and Military Response

The border had remained closed following intensified clashes earlier this month. Hostilities surged after Taliban and allied militants launched coordinated att@cks on Pakistani border posts on the night of October 11–12, 2025.
Pakistan’s armed forces launched a swift counteroffensive, targeting multiple militant positions and reportedly inflicting heavy losses on hostile elements. According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the cross-border aggression aimed to destabilize border areas and support extremist groups operating from Afghan territory.

    Precision Strikes and Controlled Operations

In response, Pakistan carried out precision strikes and targeted operations against camps and training facilities linked to Fitna al-Khawarij (FAK), Fitna al-Hindustan (FAH), and ISKP/Daesh. Military sources confirmed that all actions were executed with measures in place to minimize collateral damage and ensure civilian safety. The operations reinforced Pakistan’s stance that any hostile action would be met with a firm and proportionate response.

    Diplomatic Mediation and Ceasefire Understanding

As the conflict escalated, Qatar stepped in as a mediator, responding to a formal request from the Afghan interim government to facilitate dialogue with Islamabad. Qatari authorities relayed Kabul’s message to Pakistan, leading to renewed diplomatic communication and progress toward de-escalation.
Pakistan expressed appreciation for Qatar’s “brotherly efforts” but reiterated that future talks would depend on Afghanistan’s assurance that its territory is not used for terr0r-linked activities against Pakistan.

    Border Reopening Expected Soon

Officials confirmed that both sides have now agreed to reopen the border crossings, including Torkham, within the next 24 to 48 hours, provided no new disputes arise. The reopening is expected to restore cross-border trade, humanitarian movement, and transport connectivity, offering relief to traders and local communities affected by the prolonged closure.
