PM Shehbaz Unveils 3-Year ‘Roshan Maeeshat Bijli Package’ for Industry and Agriculture

Powering Progress — Affordable Energy for Growth

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a three-year ‘Roshan Maeeshat Bijli Package’ (Roshan Economy Power Package) aimed at boosting Pakistan’s industrial and agricultural productivity. The initiative, unveiled during a meeting with business leaders and experts in Islamabad, seeks to make energy more affordable and stimulate sustainable economic growth.

Under the new plan, industries and farmers will receive additional electricity at a subsidized rate of Rs22.98 per unit until October 2028. The move is designed to ease production costs, enhance competitiveness, and strengthen Pakistan’s manufacturing and agricultural output.

Reducing Electricity Costs for Key Sectors

The prime minister explained that the cost of electricity, which currently stands at Rs34 per unit for industries and Rs38 per unit for the agricultural sector, will be significantly reduced under this package. The government aims to make additional electricity available at lower rates, helping both sectors expand operations and improve profitability.

Shehbaz Sharif praised Minister for Energy Owais Leghari and his team for designing the policy, which he described as a “transformative step” for national progress. He emphasized that industrial and agricultural growth remains the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, contributing to exports, employment, and food security.

The premier also noted that a similar initiative launched last year resulted in the consumption of 410 gigawatts of additional electricity, fueling industrial activity and generating new job opportunities across multiple sectors.

    A Step Toward Economic Self-Reliance

Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated that Pakistan’s journey from economic hardship to stability has been long and demanding but has shown measurable progress through coordinated government and private sector efforts. He stressed that sustainable industrial and agricultural expansion will help Pakistan reduce its dependence on external loans and strengthen the national economy from within.

“The government is taking every possible measure to ensure ease of doing business, regional competitiveness, and long-term stability,” he said, reaffirming his commitment to inclusive economic growth.

The Roshan Maeeshat Bijli Package represents a key component of the government’s broader strategy to revitalize production, promote exports, and create employment opportunities through affordable and reliable energy access.
