Islamabad has expressed strong condemnation after a group of individuals purportedly of Afghan origin launched an assault on the Pakistani consulate in Frankfurt, Germany, on Saturday. The assailants threw stones and tore down Pakistan’s flag, sparking widespread outrage on social media. According to Media Reports in Pakistan, the attackers, draped in Afghan flags, forcibly entered the consulate, vandalized the premises, and replaced the Pakistani flag with their own.

It is also reported that the attackers attempted to set fire to the Pakistani flag and hurled stones at the building, as confirmed by Pakistani media sources. Videos circulating on social media captured the moment the assailants breached the consulate’s security.

The Pakistani Foreign Office issued a statement on Sunday, strongly condemning the breach of security at its consulate in Frankfurt, which jeopardized the safety of consular personnel. The statement did not identify the nationality of the attackers but underscored the failure of German authorities to safeguard the diplomatic facility.

“Pakistan unequivocally condemns the attack by a group of extremists on its consulate in Frankfurt, Germany, and the failure of German authorities to protect the sanctity and security of our consular mission’s premises,” the Foreign Office declared. “We are lodging a robust protest with the German government. We call upon the German authorities to promptly fulfill their obligations under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, 1963, and ensure the security of Pakistan’s diplomatic missions and staff in Germany.”

The Foreign Office also urged German authorities to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the incident and to hold accountable those who allowed the security lapse.

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also condemned the attack, demanding the arrest and prosecution of all involved. Taking to social media, he stated, “Yesterday, a group of extremists breached the security of Pakistan’s consulate in Frankfurt, Germany, endangering the lives of our consular staff. Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with the German Government. We have urged them to fulfill their responsibilities under international law and ensure the safety of our diplomatic missions and staff in Germany.”

“We have also insisted on immediate action to arrest and prosecute those responsible for yesterday’s incident and address the security failures,” he added.
