Election Tribunal Upholds Nawaz Sharif’s NA-130 Victory, Dismisses Yasmin Rashid’s Petition

Introduction The Election Tribunal has delivered a decisive verdict. It resolves a high-profile battle from the 2024 General Elections. On Tuesday, the tribunal dismissed a key petition. This petition was filed by PTI leader Dr. Yasmin Rashid. Therefore, the court has upheld the victory of Nawaz Sharif. He remains the winner of the NA-130 (Lahore) seat.

    Details of the Tribunal’s Ruling

The petition had been pending for over a year. It alleged massive irregularities in vote counting. Dr. Rashid’s team argued there were glaring discrepancies. Specifically, they pointed to differences between Form-45s and Form-47.

However, the tribunal disagreed. In its judgment, the court ruled against the petitioner. It stated she failed to provide concrete evidence. Consequently, the ECP’s official notification stands. The verdict noted only minor procedural errors. Thus, they did not affect the final outcome.

    Background of the Battle

NA-130 is a critical constituency. It is considered a stronghold of the Sharif family. The 2024 contest was symbolic. It was a clash between PML-N and PTI. Previously, independent monitors had suggested statistical anomalies. As a result, this fueled the opposition’s claims of rigging.

    Political Fallout and Reactions

The verdict boosts the PML-N government. It validates their mandate. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar spoke outside the court. He said, “Truth has prevailed.” Furthermore, he claimed the tribunal exposed false propaganda.

    The Opposition’s Next Move

In contrast, Dr. Yasmin Rashid remains defiant. She spoke through her lawyers from jail. They announced plans to challenge the decision. Specifically, they will go to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Her counsel stated, “We will take this to the highest court.”
