Early this morning, an attempted terrorist attack on Bannu Cantt was intercepted when assailants tried to breach the perimeter with an explosive-laden vehicle. The incident, occurring at 4:40 am near the outer wall of Bannu Cantt and the supply depot, was swiftly neutralized by security forces, who cornered the terrorists and launched a clearance operation to secure the area.
In a separate incident earlier in Torka Bazaar, authorities narrowly averted disaster when an explosive device planted by unknown assailants detonated prematurely, before it could cause harm to a passing police vehicle. DPO Ziauddin Ahmed confirmed the incident, reassuring that no damage or injuries were reported despite the close call near Akhoondan Sorani.
The Counter-Terrorism Department’s (CTD) recent report highlights a troubling trend in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, revealing a significant increase in terrorist incidents in 2024. The province has witnessed 273 such incidents targeting 118 policemen, prompting extensive security operations. Since the beginning of the year, 1,433 operations have been conducted, resulting in the arrest of 322 terrorists and the elimination of 124 others.
