A terrorist attack on a police check post in Lakki Marwat resulted in the death of at least four policemen, including DSP Iqbal Mohmand, Khyber News reported on Thursday.

All deaths occurred in a roadside bomb explosion that hit the police party while it was on its way to the place of attack. At least six other personnel sustained injuries in the overnight gun assault.

Terrorists launched an attack on a police checkpoint located in Lakki Marwat in the early hours of Thursday. Later, the police contingent exchanged gunfire with the terrorists. Following the incident, the police initiated a search operation to locate and apprehend the terrorists.

The deceased include DSP Iqbal Mohmand, Karamat, Waqar and Ali Marjan. The injured include Head Constable Farooq Shah, Constable Amanatullah, Asghar, Sardar Ali and Arif. The casualties have been shifted to a local hospital.

Police spokesman said that DSP Iqbal Mohmand, accompanied by three gunners, left for the assault site immediately after the terrorists started firing at the Saddar police station.

However, a roadside bomb near the police station exploded as his vehicle passed Pirwala Morr, said the police spokesman. The blast left DSP Iqbal Mohmand martyred along with his gunners.

Lakki Marwat, a district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, has been a frequent target of terrorist attacks in recent years. The attacks have resulted in the loss of many innocent lives, including police officers

On November 16, 2022, at least six policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI), were martyred when two terrorists on a motorcycle opened fire on their mobile during routine patrolling. The incident took place within the parameters of the Dadiwala Police Station. On December 18, 2022, four policemen were martyred, and four others were injured in a terrorist attack on the Bargai police. The terrorists managed to escape from the scene.

In February 2023, there were two separate incidents of terrorist attacks on police stations in Lakki Marwat. On February 7, police backed by security forces had killed at least 12 terrorists in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Shahbaz Khel area of Lakki Marwat. Police sources said that the terrorists belonged to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Azhar-ud-Din group, which was involved in the December 2022 terrorist attack. On February 13, terrorists attacked the Bakhmal Police Station in Lakki Marwat and opened fire at the police personnel. Police returned fire, and after an exchange of fire, the terrorists escaped.

These incidents have left many families devastated, and it is crucial to take necessary measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. The government and law enforcement agencies should work together to enhance security measures and prevent terrorist attacks. The public should also be vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to identify and report suspicious activities. Only by working together can we ensure a safe and secure environment for all.
