CAIRO: At least 30 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip on Thursday, with significant damage reported at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. The assault reportedly torched medical supplies and interrupted operations, according to Gaza health officials.
The Israeli military accused Hamas of using the hospital in Beit Lahiya for militant purposes, claiming that “dozens of terrorists” were hiding there. Both Hamas and Gaza health officials deny the charge.
In the midst of an ongoing offensive focused in northern Gaza, Israeli forces previously raided Kamal Adwan Hospital, detaining approximately 100 suspected Hamas militants. The military asserts that it has stationed tanks nearby to prevent regrouping of hostile forces in the region.
The Hamas-run health ministry called for international organizations to safeguard medical facilities and staff amid escalating violence. Meanwhile, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported that one of their doctors at Kamal Adwan was detained by Israeli forces last Saturday, urging the protection of all healthcare workers under “horrific violence” while providing critical care.
The current conflict began after Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in 1,200 casualties and 251 hostages, according to Israeli sources. Since then, more than 43,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed in Gaza, with extensive destruction across the enclave, Palestinian authorities report.
