Karachi Protests Over Nasrallah Killing: Clashes with Police Near U.S. Consulate

Protests erupted in Karachi on Sunday as demonstrators clashed with police while attempting to reach the U.S. consulate. The rally was organized in response to the killing of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike. Protesters, numbering around 3,000, chanted anti-American slogans and carried posters of Nasrallah.

    Clashes Between Protesters and Police

Tensions escalated when stone-throwing protesters breached police barricades, leading to clashes with law enforcement. Seven police officers were injured during the confrontation and are currently receiving treatment. Police Deputy Inspector General Asad Raza stated that officers had to use baton charges and tear gas to disperse the crowd as demonstrators attempted to move beyond agreed-upon areas near the consulate.

    Police to Take Legal Action

Raza mentioned that criminal cases will be registered against protesters who engaged in violence during the demonstration. The rally was organized by Majlis Wahadatul Muslimeen, a pro-Iran Shi’ite religious political party, and attracted significant attention due to its size and the rising tensions in the region following Nasrallah’s death.

    Regional Tensions Following Nasrallah’s Death

Following Nasrallah’s killing in Beirut on Friday, Hezbollah launched new rocket attacks on Israel, while Iran vowed to avenge his death. The death of the Hezbollah leader has further strained relations in the Middle East, fueling protests in cities like Karachi.
