KYIV: A recent drone attack by Russia on the Ukrainian capital has left nine people injured, set several apartments ablaze, and damaged a kindergarten, marking the 19th assault on Kyiv this month, according to officials.
Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 62 drones overnight, with air defense units successfully intercepting 33 of them. However, 25 drones remain unaccounted for. “Nineteen air attacks on Kyiv in October!” stated Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, on the Telegram messaging app. “Overnight, Russian drones again flew over the capital.”
Falling debris from a destroyed drone ignited a fire in a multi-storey apartment building in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district, resulting in injuries to at least nine individuals, including an 11-year-old girl. Mayor Vitali Klitschko provided updates via Telegram, noting that all injured persons received medical attention on the scene.
In total, 19 residents were evacuated from the damaged building. The city’s military administration shared photographs showing blown-out windows and significant damage to the facade of what was identified as a kindergarten.
Witnesses reported seeing firefighters working diligently to extinguish flames in the affected apartment units, with air raid alerts sounding across Kyiv, the surrounding region, and much of eastern Ukraine for over two hours overnight.
As the situation escalates, concerns about the ongoing conflict and its impact on civilian infrastructure continue to grow.
