Pakistan Calls India a ‘Regional Bully’ at UNGA, Terms Name Distortion ‘Utterly Shameful’
Pakistan has strongly rebuked India at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), calling it a “regional bully” after an Indian diplomat distorted Islamabad’s name as “Terr0ristan.”
Heated Exchange at UNGA
Tensions between Pakistan and India resurfaced during the Right of Reply session on the fifth day of the UNGA.
Indian representative Rentala Srinivas branded Pakistan a “terr0rist state,” declaring:
“No arguments or untruths can ever whitewash the crimes of Terr0ristan.”
In response, Muhammad Rashid, Second Secretary at the Pakistan Mission, condemned the remarks as “utterly shameful” and an attempt to distort the name of a fellow UN member state.
Pakistan’s Counter-Argument
Rashid dismissed the Indian claims as “devoid of facts” and accused India of being “a serial perpetrator of terr0rism” itself. He stressed that India’s actions in South Asia reveal a pattern of hegemonic designs, radical ideology, and reckless behaviour.
He further highlighted:
-
India’s alleged involvement in financing groups engaged in sabotage and targeted killings.
-
Human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), including extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and staged encounters.
-
The duplicity of India’s counter-terr0rism narrative, which he argued undermines its global credibility.
Call for Peace and Diplomacy
While reiterating Pakistan’s sacrifices in combating terr0rism, Rashid underlined that peace in South Asia cannot be achieved through “threats and intimidation.”
He invited India to embrace sincerity and dialogue, stating:
“True progress requires sincerity, mutual respect, dialogue and diplomacy — principles Pakistan has upheld, and which India must finally choose to embrace, if it truly seeks peace.”
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his own UNGA address earlier, also urged for “proactive rather than provocative leadership” to resolve regional disputes and prevent further escalation.
Conclusion
The latest exchange underscores the deep mistrust and hostility between Pakistan and India, two nuclear-armed neighbours with a history of conflict. As both countries continue to trade accusations on the world stage, the international community remains concerned about the impact on regional stability and global security.
