Pakistan’s Economy Shows Improvement as Corruption Perception Decreases: Transparency International

A recent survey by Transparency International Pakistan reveals positive signs for the country’s economy, alongside a decline in corruption perception among citizens. The findings, captured in the National Corruption Perception Survey (NCPS) 2025, suggest that governance reforms and economic policies under the current government are gradually taking effect.

Positive Trends in Governance and Transparency

According to the NCPS 2025 report, Pakistanis are increasingly experiencing transparent and accountable governance. Around 66% of citizens reported not having to pay a bribe for government services, highlighting a notable improvement in public sector efficiency. Transparency International attributes this progress to the government’s focus on rule-based decision-making, fiscal discipline, and the prioritization of openness in its reform agenda.

The report further emphasizes that public perception has improved across several critical sectors, including education, land and property management, and taxation. Citizens have also expressed greater confidence in the police, reflecting improved behaviour and service delivery in recent years.

    Economic Stabilization and Policy Reforms

Transparency International’s survey points to key economic measures contributing to Pakistan’s positive trajectory. Agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the country’s removal from the FATF gray list have bolstered economic stability. These steps, coupled with consistent governance reforms, have helped move the economy from a period of stagnation toward development and stability.

The NCPS 2025 findings indicate that citizens are starting to notice tangible improvements in transparency, governance, and public service delivery, signaling that reform measures are gaining traction.

    Moving Forward: Sustaining Progress

While the report highlights positive developments, maintaining momentum will require continued enforcement of transparency measures and strict accountability for public officials. The survey underlines that institutional reforms and citizen trust are key drivers in sustaining economic growth and curbing corruption.

Transparency International Pakistan’s findings provide a roadmap for strengthening governance while emphasizing the importance of public engagement and accountability. As Pakistan moves forward, the focus on transparent policies and consistent reform is likely to play a critical role in enhancing both economic stability and citizen confidence.
