Pakistan Introduces High-Tech Passports with Modern Secu-rity Features and Cultural Landmarks

Pakistan’s Passport Enters a New Era of Modernization

The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has unveiled a redesigned Pakistani passport equipped with modern secu-rity features to combat forgery, misuse, and duplication. This move marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to enhance document integrity, streamline verification processes, and celebrate national identity through design.

Officials confirmed that the new passport includes advanced anti-counterfeit elements that align with international standards. These updates aim to ensure better protection for travelers while maintaining the credibility of Pakistani documents across global platforms. The printing of these passports has already begun following approval from the Ministry of Interior.

    Inclusion and Cultural Representation

One of the most notable additions is the inclusion of the mother’s name alongside the father’s name on the passport’s information page. The Directorate highlighted that this measure supports inclusivity and provides greater accuracy in identity verification — particularly for individuals who rely on maternal documentation for citizenship confirmation or travel.

Additionally, the new design showcases printed images of Pakistan’s historical landmarks on the visa pages, representing iconic sites from all provinces. These visuals celebrate Pakistan’s cultural richness and diversity, reflecting unity through heritage. The initiative aims to promote the country’s image abroad while inspiring national pride among citizens.

    Technological Innovation for Faster Service

Earlier this year, DG Passports Mustafa Jamal Kazi announced the introduction of cutting-edge, AI-powered printing machines capable of producing up to 300 passports per hour. The new system is fully integrated with the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra), ensuring real-time data verification and faster processing.

The deployment of six such machines nationwide has reduced backlog issues and improved service delivery across regional offices. This modernization aligns with the principles of “modernity and harmonisation,” as stated by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports. Officials also clarified that, aside from these enhancements, the overall format and structure of the existing passport remain unchanged.

    A Step Toward Global Compatibility

The upgrade reflects Pakistan’s broader strategy to adopt global best practices in documentation and border management. Enhanced secu-rity, improved efficiency, and a focus on citizen convenience are central to the reform. By embracing AI technology and inclusive representation, Pakistan aims to position itself among countries leading in digital identity transformation.

The revamped passport not only strengthens national secu-rity but also tells the story of a country that values both tradition and technology. As printing continues, citizens can expect smoother processing, reduced wait times, and an experience that mirrors international standards.
