ISLAMABAD: The United Nations General Assembly has once again unanimously adopted a Pakistan-sponsored resolution on the “Universal Realization of the Right of Peoples to Self-Determination.” This victory highlights Pakistan’s consistent leadership on this critical issue.

The resolution emphasizes the universal right to self-determination. It offers hope to millions worldwide fighting for freedom and independence. Pakistan has long championed this cause, ensuring it remains a cornerstone of international discourse.

The resolution focuses on the struggles of people in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine. It reinforces global support for their legitimate aspirations for self-determination. For over four decades, Pakistan has presented this resolution annually to draw attention to those denied this fundamental right, especially those under oppressive regimes.

The Foreign Office described the resolution as a vital step in supporting oppressed communities. “By reaffirming these principles, the resolution sends a strong message of solidarity to peoples striving for freedom and independence from foreign domination and occupation,” said the Foreign Office.

Pakistan’s resolution not only gained unanimous approval but also received support and co-sponsorship from many countries. It calls for an end to foreign intervention and aggression while emphasizing the rights of people under occupation.

The resolution highlights the inalienable right to self-determination. This right is essential for protecting and advancing human rights globally. It applies to people under foreign occupation, colonial control, and alien domination.

“The unanimous adoption of this resolution reflects the collective will of UN member states,” stated the Foreign Office. It further strengthens the principle of self-determination enshrined in international law, including the UN Charter and the International Covenants on Civil and Political Rights, and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

This resolution reaffirms the global commitment to justice, equality, and peace. It sends a clear message to oppressed peoples worldwide, giving them hope and reinforcing international solidarity.
