SP Among Three Police Officers Martyred in Twin Expl0sions in KP’s Hangu

HANGU: Three police officers, including Superintendent of Police (SP) Operations Zubair, were martyred in twin expl0sions that rocked the Hangu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday. The blasts, which targeted the SP’s vehicle, also injured several other police officials and nearby civilians.

District Police Officer Khanzeb Mohmand confirmed the deaths, stating that the wounded were immediately shifted to the DHQ Hospital Hangu for medical treatment. The incident has triggered heightened concern among law enforcement agencies already dealing with rising incidents targeting officials in the region.

According to police reports, the first blast occurred near SP Zubair’s vehicle during a routine operation in the area. Emergency response teams and additional police contingents reached the site soon after the incident, cordoning off the area and beginning rescue operations.

Earlier Blast Near Checkpoint Raises Questions of Link

Officials also confirmed that this was the second expl0sion reported in Hangu on the same day. Earlier, an expl0sive device detonated near a police checkpoint in the Ghulmina area. The blast destroyed a nearby room and caused panic among residents.

Preliminary reports suggest that unknown individuals had planted the device in the area. Police are investigating whether the two incidents were connected or part of a coordinated effort to target law enforcement personnel in the district.

Experts believe the use of planted devices points to growing risks for frontline officers operating in volatile zones of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly those involved in operations against anti-state groups.

    Authorities Launch Full-Scale Investigation

District authorities and the provincial government have launched a full-scale investigation into both incidents. Security forces have initiated search operations in surrounding areas to trace those responsible for the twin expl0sions.

Local officials said forensic teams are analyzing evidence collected from both sites to determine the type of devices used and any links to previous incidents. The provincial police chief has also directed for enhanced secu-rity measures across sensitive installations and checkpoints in the region.

The martyrdom of SP Zubair and his colleagues has drawn widespread condolences from political leaders, fellow officers, and the local community. Many have praised their sacrifice and reaffirmed commitment to countering such threats through better preparedness and intelligence-led policing.

    Conclusion

The twin expl0sions in Hangu mark yet another tragic reminder of the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. As investigations continue, authorities are focusing on strengthening preventive measures and improving secu-rity coordination to protect officers serving on the frontlines
