The CM of Balochistan, Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki, has issued directives to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Balochistan. The CM it to intensify relief efforts in the rain-affected regions of Gwadar. In a recently released statement, he emphasized the implementation of all necessary measures to provide assistance to those adversely impacted by the ongoing rainfall.

Presently, the Balochistan province, encompassing its capital, Quetta, is witnessing intermittent rainfall, aligning with the forecasts from the Meteorological Department. However, certain areas, particularly Gwadar, have experienced heightened and prolonged rainfall, resulting in flooding and subsequent disruptions.

    After effects of rain

On the morning of February 27th, torrential downpours triggered a flood situation in Gwadar. It submerged various areas, including Gwadar city and Sarabandan. The Commissioner of Makran confirmed a substantial nine-hour rainfall in Gwadar. It led to collapsed walls and settlements around Jinnah Avenue inundated with water.

The severity of the weather conditions prompted the postponement of matriculation exams in the Gwadar district. This condition underscores the considerable disruption caused by the heavy rainfall.

According to reports from the Meteorological Department, rainfall has been recorded across diverse locations in Balochistan. Gwadar is receiving the highest amount, at 58 millimeters. Other areas, including Quetta, Dalbandin, Khuzdar, and Turbat, also experienced varying degrees of rainfall.

    The forecast of Meteorological Department

Looking ahead, the Meteorological Department anticipates that the prevailing weather system will continue to bring sustained rain to northern Balochistan and coastal areas until the evening of February 28th. Subsequently, a new weather system is expected to arrive on February 29th. This may trigger heavy rainfall across different parts of the province until March 2nd.

The ongoing rain and its impact on Gwadar highlight the vulnerability of certain regions to severe weather events. It necessitates the swift and effective response measures. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority plays a crucial role in coordinating relief efforts. It ensures the safety and well-being of the affected population.

In such situations, the immediate focus is on providing emergency assistance, including shelter, food, and medical support, to those displaced or adversely affected by flooding. The coordination between government agencies, local authorities, and humanitarian organizations becomes pivotal to efficiently addressing the natural disasters.

    Exams delayed

Moreover, the postponement of matriculation exams reflects the broader consequences of adverse weather conditions on the routine functioning of educational institutions. The disruptions caused by heavy rainfall can impact the academic calendar and necessitate adjustments to accommodate unforeseen circumstances.

As Balochistan grapples with the aftermath of heavy rainfall, the resilience and preparedness of the local communities, coupled with the effectiveness of relief efforts, will play a crucial role in mitigating the impact of the ongoing weather events. It also underscores the importance of proactive measures, including infrastructure development, early warning systems, and community awareness programs, to enhance the region’s resilience to natural disasters in the future.
