Two soldiers died while the Pakistan Army eliminated eight attackers in Gawadar who tried to breach the Gwadar Port Authority Colony, as per the military’s public relations department.

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that a group of eight terrorists tried to infiltrate the Port Authority Colony. However, security, personnel successfully repelled them.

In swift response, security forces engaged the terrorists, resulting in the elimination of all eight assailants. They seized a substantial cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives during the operation, the ISPR noted.

Sepoy Bahar Khan, aged 35 and hailing from Dera Ghazi Khan, along with Sepoy Imran Ali, aged 28 from Khairpur district, bravely fought and laid down their lives in the line of duty, being hailed as martyrs by the ISPR.

The ISPR emphasized the unwavering commitment of Pakistan’s security forces to safeguard Balochistan’s peace and stability. They also cited the sacrifices of brave soldiers as a testament to their resolve.

Makran Commissioner Saeed Ahmed Umrani confirmed multiple explosions during the incident. A significant number of police and security personnel were at the scene amid ongoing gunfire.

Gwadar Senior Superintendent of Police Captain (retd) Zohaib Mohsin initially reported eight assailants neutralized. However, he later revised the count to seven, noting that the firing had ceased.

The United Nations Department for Safety and Security reported “several explosions followed by continuous firing,” with no immediate casualties reported among UN personnel.

The Majeed Brigade of the proscribed Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack on the complex.

Terrorist activities have surged in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. This has occurred following the cessation of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s ceasefire with the government in November 2022.

In November, a militant attack on security forces’ vehicles in Gwadar left 14 Pakistan Army soldiers martyred.

According to a security report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan witnessed 97 militant attacks in February, resulting in 87 fatalities and 118 injuries, with increased violence in Balochistan contrasting with a decrease in tribal districts and mainland KP.
