Pakistan’s counter-terrorism efforts face a daunting challenge as foreign-sourced arms fuel cross-border attacks. Advanced weaponry, originally intended for Afghan defense, now falls into the hands of militants targeting Pakistan. Fitnah-ul-Khawarij and affiliated groups infiltrate through the Pak-Afghan border, intensifying regional tensions.

    Recent Counter-Terrorism Successes

    1. Bajaur District Success (October 23/24, 2024)
An intelligence-led operation led to the elimination of nine Khawarij insurgents, including notorious ringleader Syed Muhammad Qureshi. Arms seized, including M4 rifles and AK-47s, emphasize the foreign-sourced threat.
    2. Waziristan Clashes (September 19/20, 2024)
Twelve extremists were neutralized in two encounters, with SKS rifles and RPD machine guns recovered, alluding to an increased foreign arms flow.
    3. Mustang, Balochistan (August 18/19, 2024)
Security forces eradicated three BLA terrorists linked to local attacks and retrieved RPGs and assault rifles.
    4. Zhob District Anti-Terror Efforts (Since April 21, 2024)
Multiple operations along the Pak-Afghan border have targeted militant hideouts, retrieving RPG rockets and M-16 rifles.
    5. Khyber Operation (April 29, 2024)
The elimination of leaders Qari Wajid and Raziq disrupted terrorist networks, with arms seized including advanced weaponry.

U.S. Equipment in Afghan Hands: A Security Threat

Approximately 300,000 U.S.-supplied combat weapons remain unaccounted for in Afghanistan, despite the Afghan government’s pledge against facilitating terrorism. This lack of oversight has escalated attacks on Pakistan, with over $18 billion in weaponry now posing a severe threat.

    Pakistan’s Countermeasures and Regional Stability

Pakistan’s security forces persist in intelligence-led operations to dismantle militant networks and curb foreign arms trafficking. These actions underscore Pakistan’s commitment to stability amid increasing cross-border aggression.
