Field Marshal Asim Munir Reaffirms Strong Response to Future Aggression, Credits May Victory to Divine Support

Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and newly appointed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has reaffirmed that the country will deliver a strong and immediate response to any future act of aggression. His latest remarks come during a luncheon hosted for Jordan’s King Abdullah II at the President’s House, where he expressed gratitude to Allah for Pakistan’s military performance during the May conflict with India.

While addressing the gathering, Field Marshal Munir raised his finger toward the sky and said, “I did not lead Pakistan to victory, Allah did.” He added that Pakistan’s Army draws its strength from faith, saying, “Pakistan’s Army is Allah’s Army. Its soldiers fight in the name of Allah.”

    Reflection on the May Conflict

The May confrontation between Pakistan and India marked one of the most intense escalations in recent years. India carried out missile strikes on the night of May 5 and 6, resulting in civilian and secu-rity personnel casualties in Pakistan. Pakistan immediately denied any involvement in the Pahalgam att@ck in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir, where 28 tourists were killed. New Delhi accused Islamabad without presenting concrete evidence.

In a swift response, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, targeting more than 20 Indian military installations across multiple regions. During the confrontation, Pakistan reportedly downed seven Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft. The escalation ended on May 10 after the United States brokered a ceasefire agreement between the nuclear-armed neighbours.

Field Marshal Munir stated that the conflict demonstrated how faith, unity, and discipline remain critical to the country’s defense. He emphasized that Allah has promised believers triumph when they stand firm, and he reiterated that Pakistan’s performance in May reflected that commitment.

Message of Peace Coupled With Preparedness

Despite highlighting Pakistan’s military readiness, the army chief reiterated the nation’s commitment to peace. He said Pakistan seeks harmony and stability in the region but remains fully capable of responding to any form of aggression, just as it did during the May conflict.

He urged the public and leadership to pray for Pakistan’s progress, stating that his duty is to serve the nation “as commanded by Allah.” His comments received support from several participants, who congratulated him on his leadership during the confrontation.

A New Role and an Extended Tenure

Field Marshal Munir’s remarks come shortly after the federal government confirmed that his tenure will restart following his elevation to Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). According to Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, the term for the CDF will span five years from the date of appointment.

The recently passed amendment to the Pakistan Army Act clarifies that the COAS, concurrently serving as CDF under Article 243 of the Constitution, will have his tenure counted from the date of official notification. This legal update provides clarity regarding the extension and future leadership structure of Pakistan’s defense command.

With this new role, the field marshal is expected to oversee long-term strategic planning, regional defence cooperation, and modernization initiatives across the armed forces.

    Regional Dynamics and Strategic Significance

The May conflict and its aftermath continue to shape Pakistan’s defence posture. Analysts believe that Field Marshal Munir’s assertive stance signals a message of deterrence while reinforcing Pakistan’s emphasis on faith-based resilience and national unity. His comments also reflect the evolving geopolitical environment, where both deterrence and diplomacy remain vital to maintaining regional stability.

Pakistan’s leadership maintains that peace is the preferred path, yet national sovereignty will always be protected with full force when required. Munir’s narrative aligns with this dual approach, combining readiness with responsibility.

    Conclusion

Field Marshal Asim Munir’s reaffirmation of a decisive response to future aggression underscores Pakistan’s evolving strategic posture. By attributing victory in the May confrontation to divine support and reiterating the army’s faith-driven ethos, he continues to shape a narrative where national strength emerges from unity, discipline, and belief.

As Pakistan navigates regional tensions and internal challenges, the field marshal’s renewed tenure and expanded role as CDF will play a central part in shaping the country’s defence and secu-rity trajectory in the years ahead.
