Indonesia has issued a strong condemnation following the death of a fourth of its peacekeepers serving in Lebanon, intensifying calls for accountability over the incident.
According to Indonesia’s foreign ministry, the peacekeeper succumbed to severe injuries sustained in an artillery explosion caused by an Israeli tank strike on March 29. The attack had already claimed the lives of three other Indonesian personnel, raising serious concerns about the safety of international peacekeeping forces in conflict zones.
Jakarta described the incident as unacceptable and renewed its demand for a full investigation. The government has urged the United Nations to carry out a thorough, transparent, and accountable probe into the deaths of its personnel deployed under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon.
Indonesia emphasized that peacekeepers operate under a mandate to maintain stability and should not become targets in escalating hostilities. The loss of four personnel has intensified pressure on international bodies to ensure greater protection and accountability mechanisms for those serving in such missions.
The incident also highlights the growing risks facing UN peacekeeping operations amid increasingly volatile regional conflicts. As tensions continue to rise, the demand for clarity, responsibility, and safeguards for peacekeeping forces is becoming more urgent.
Indonesia has reiterated its commitment to international peace efforts but stressed that justice for its fallen personnel remains a priority.
