On August 12, 2024, formal proceedings under the Pakistan Army Act commenced against retired Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed through a Field General Court Martial, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In the latest phase of the proceedings, Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed has been officially charged with multiple serious offenses. These charges include engaging in political activities, violating the Official Secrets Act, endangering the security and interests of the state, misusing authority and official resources, and causing undue harm to individuals, as confirmed by ISPR.
During the ongoing Court Martial, a separate investigation is underway into Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed’s alleged involvement in violent incidents that led to unrest and disorder across the country. Notably, this investigation encompasses the events of May 9, a day marked by widespread unrest.
The inquiry also extends to exploring the potential involvement and collusion of certain political elements in these violent activities, suggesting a coordinated effort to incite chaos and undermine stability.
ISPR emphasized that throughout the Field General Court Martial process, Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed is being provided with all legal rights and protections as per the law, ensuring a fair and transparent judicial procedure.
This case reflects a significant effort by the military to address alleged breaches of discipline and ensure accountability, even at the highest levels of service.
