Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif recently indicated plans for cross-border attacks into Afghanistan targeting the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The United States has responded cautiously, refraining from outright opposition while stopping short of endorsing such actions.

US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller acknowledged Pakistan’s struggle against terrorism but clarified that the US does not support the Taliban or fund their activities. Miller highlighted concerns over the Taliban’s treatment of Afghan citizens and their imposition of moral standards.

Meanwhile, Major General Patrick Ryder from the US Department of Defense stated that Pakistan’s decision on security measures, including potential airstrikes on TTP, is an internal matter. Ryder emphasized ongoing US collaboration with Pakistan on regional counterterrorism efforts while refraining from discussing specific intelligence operations.

The statements reflect a nuanced US stance on Pakistan’s proposed actions, balancing support for Pakistan’s security concerns with cautious diplomacy regarding cross-border operations into Afghanistan.
