Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, addressing a federal cabinet meeting, emphasized Pakistan’s unwavering resolve against terrorism. He stated that the country’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies stand united in this fight.
Speaking about relations with Afghanistan, the Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s desire for improved ties. He expressed a wish for enhanced cooperation in trade, economic development, and other sectors. However, he criticized the ongoing operations of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Afghan soil.
He firmly stated that this policy of sheltering the TTP cannot continue. “We have repeatedly conveyed to the Afghan government that while we seek positive relations, the TTP’s activities must end. They cannot be allowed to target innocent Pakistanis,” said the Prime Minister. He called the TTP’s presence in Afghanistan a “red line” for Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that better relations with Afghanistan cannot coexist with tolerance for terrorist activities. He stressed that terrorism originating from Afghan soil is unacceptable and that Pakistan reserves the right to defend its sovereignty and security.
The Prime Minister referred to a tragic incident where 16 Frontier Corps soldiers were martyred in a recent attack. He also mentioned another clash in South Waziristan, where Pakistan’s armed forces eliminated several terrorists. During this operation, a major and other soldiers lost their lives. He commended the Pakistan Army for its commitment to eradicating terrorism and maintaining national security.
Addressing a separate issue, the Prime Minister mentioned the shortage of medicines in Parachinar. He announced that supplies were being sent via helicopters with the assistance of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). He assured that medicines had already been delivered to the area.
Shehbaz Sharif concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s strong stance against terrorism. He praised the armed forces for their sacrifices and determination in protecting the nation.
